Actors have to prepare harder not just for their roles, but also for their look in a historical show. Cheshta Mehta, currently playing the role of Raja Bhoj’s wife Vallari in the show Sinhasan Battisi, agrees that it requires hard work and patience to play mythological characters on television. “I learnt horse riding and sword fighting for the show. For one of the sequences, I had to shoot in the Haathi Gate area of Filmcity and I toppled down from the horse many times and injured myself.
I was in bed for seven days after the shoot as I had fever and bruises all over my body. But, the end result was great because you are learning a lot of things,” she says.

But more than the character, my costumes and makeup take at least two-and-a-half hours. I can’t even lie down once I wear the costume. I have to just sit in a chair during breaks. I can’t even use the bathroom for hours when I am in this costume.”
