RAJKOT: Amreli police have arrested rape and murder accused of minor girl on Thursday and launched further probe in this case. Earlier on Sunday, the six-year-old tribal girl in Kotdapitha village in Babra taluka of Amreli district was allegedly raped and murdered by Pankaj Rematiya, a tribal from Madhya Pradesh.
The minor girl was found dead in mysterious circumstances on 7 December on outskirts of Kotdapithavillage.
Victim's parents had suspected that the girl was allegedly raped and police had sent deceased' body to Bhavnagar medical college for forensic post-mortem to ascertain the cause of her death and whether she was raped or not. Sources said that post-mortem revealed that she was raped before being murdered. She was strangulated.
Victim's father, a native of Madhya Pradesh, who has been working as an agricultural labourer inKotdapitha since last four years, lodged a case against Pankaj Rematiya, a tribal from Madhya Pradesh alleging rape and murder with Babra police station. Pankaj was also working as an agricultural labourer inKotdapitha village.
Girl's family members were told by other nearby children that girl was last seen with Pankaj two days ago.
