Mobile Apps are Now Key Marketing Tools for Online Retailers

BENGALURU: Flipkart gives Google Run Sale a miss this year as it has now come up with its own innovative ways to lure customers to itself. This is not the strategy of Flipkart alone, all other online retailers seem to be following the same route to reach the end user. Flipkart recently feasted its Mobile App users with a block sale with huge discount offers. And looks like the idea worked wonders for Flipkart.

All the online retailers are now pushing the app features to make the maximum out of it. This strategy is also enticing more and more customers into downloading the apps, which automatically increases their customer base. Creating a trail of loyal customers is the prime factor which these retailers are focusing on. For Google, this kind of fast growing trend underlines the need to expand mobile offerings to retain its healthy rate of growth in a market where more people are expected to access the Internet on the mobile.

Mausam Bhatt, senior director for mobile commerce & digital marketing at Flipkart said, "the ecommerce industry is now mcommerce in India; the way you reach out to customers is very different even from a year ago when other digital channels were more prominent.”

Economic Times also reports that Flipkart and the local operations of U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon get more than half their traffic through Indian mobile phone users. And, these companies are increasingly spending on mobile-related promotions in order to accelerate the growth.

As more and more consumers move to mobile sales, traditional forms of advertising have been slowing gradually and are set to meet their end soon.
