Mystery surrounds the death of a young woman in Pallavaram on Tuesday evening. She was found dead in the house of her employer.
A native of West Bengal, Pinky worked as a domestic help for a couple, also hailing from West Bengal. She had come to Chennai a year ago to take care of the couple’s four-year-old boy. The police estimate her age to be around 19.
Around 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday, Pinky’s employers found her hanging in the ground-floor portion of their house in Pallavaram.
According to the police, the couple suspected Pinky of stealing money from their house and reported the matter to their house owner, S. Magaali, a sub-inspector (SI) attached to the Shankar Nagar police station in St. Thomas Mount district. The SI had reportedly informally questioned Pinky on this. Her employers had also threatened to send her back home.
According to the police, Pinky hung herself to death when she was alone at home on Tuesday. “We think there is no room for foul play in this case. However, we will wait for post-mortem tests to conclude investigation,” a senior police officer said.
A case has been registered.
