Under ‘Ram avatar Modi’, BJP calls for Ram Rajya in Delhi

BJP MP from Unnao, at a rally in Deoli, entreated people to vote for the BJP since it was the party that believed in 'Ram ke adarsh'.

Parallels between Lord Ram and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Hindu myths and the colour saffron dominated the BJP’s campaign in Delhi as party MPs asked people to stand by Modi to establish a ‘Ram Rajya’ in the capital.

Faizabad MP Lallu Singh, who addressed a rally in Uttam Nagar Assembly constituency, said, “Agar is desh main aap chahte hai Ram rajya ki sthapana ho, jiske liye prbahu Sri Ram ne 14 saalon ka banwaasi jeevan apnaya, toh BJP ki sarkar Dilli main bane, yeh aapki zimmedari hai.” (If you want to establish Ram Rajya in the country, for which Lord Ram underwent a 14-year exile, then you have to vote for the BJP. This is your responsibility).

He went on to compare Lord Ram with Modi. “Jaise prabhu Sri Ram ke peeche pura desh khadha ho gaya tha waise aaj Narendra Modiji ke peeche pura desh khadha hua hai.” (Just like people had stood by Lord Ram, the entire country is standing by Modi today.)

While Lallu Singh described himself as “Ayodhya ka sevak”, Sakshi Maharaj, BJP MP from Unnao, at a rally in Deoli, entreated people to vote for the BJP since it was the party that believed in “Ram ke adarsh”.

He spoke about conversions to Hinduism in Agra and said, “We are not from a culture that believes in conversion at sword point. It has happened in a Muslim country, where Christians were forced to convert at sword point. That is not our sanskriti… In Agra, certain people have become Hindus. But we don’t believe in the sword, we believe in love… So what if they had converted to another religion because of some pareshani (troubles). We welcome their ghar wapsi (homecoming)”.

Festive offer

The colour saffron was the predominant feature at the JJ colony in Sawan Park, where Bahraich MP Sadhvi Savitri Bai Phule spread her saffron shawl asking for votes.

She said, “I am borrowing your votes from you. Yeh aapka karz hai Modi government par. Hum aapka vote karz ke roop mein mangne aaye hai. Aur aapko pata hoga karza byaaz ke saath vapas karna padhta hai. Hum aapko pakka ghar and development denge” (Give us your votes as loan and we will repay you with interest).

While speaking at the AAP stronghold, she promised pucca houses, water, electricity and benefits of Central government schemes to the people.

She went on to add that public representatives were all “naukars”. “We are all servants. Panch se PM tak sab naukar hai jinhe aap chunte hain. Aap maalik hai. Aapko sochna hai ki aapka naukar kaun ho. (We all are your servants. You should decide who you want as your servants),” Phule said.

Both Lallu Singh and Sakshi Maharaj blamed the AAP for the second round of Assembly elections in Delhi. Singh questioned the “foreign funding” of the party and said, “It is very unfortunate that Arvind Kejirwal wants to come to power using foreign funds, for which there is no accountability”.

Sakshi Maharaj said, “Deoli should vote for BJP so that there is no chance of a hung Assembly.”
