National under-17 chess: Aradhya and Varshini take under-17 chess titles

Aradhya Garg and V. Varshini emerged as the National under-17 chess champions at Patna on Wednesday.

Fifth-seeded Aradhya won the boys' title on a superior tie-breaker score after tying on 9.5 points with V. Pranavnananda, the ninth seed who finished runner-up.

Varshini, also seeded fifth, won the girls title with 8.5 points, half-a-point ahead of top seed M. Mahalakshmi, who took the second place.

Important results (11th round): Boys: Y. Grahesh (7) lost to V. Pranavananda (9.5); Aradhya Garg (9.5) bt N. Krishna Teja (6.5); S. Yogit (7.5) bt A. Abhishke (7).

Sai Agni Jeevitesh (6.5) drew with Neelash Saha (7); S. Prasanna (7) bt Saptorshi Gupta (6); Kumar Gaurav (7) bt M. Satvik (6).

Rahul Kumar (6) lost to Hemanth Ram (7); Baivab Mishra (7) bt M. Vaisnav (5.5); Sanchay Dubey (5.5) lost to Manan Rai (6.5); Eshan Lawaniya (5.5) lost to S. Adithya (6.5).
