Jaipur is right in the middle of the wedding season, and the second day of the theatre festival Jairangam also had the same theme. The audience got to see hilarious and dramatic versions of two weddings in the plays staged at Jawahar Kala Kendra and Ravindra Manch. Gadhe Ki Baraat, directed by Rajendra Payal and staged at Jawahar Kala Kendra, was a laughter riot in which a donkey gets married to princess Satyawati.
Dreaming of becoming rich overnight, a couple adopts a donkey, who eventually gets married to the princess. The story takes various hilarious turns, all the while showing how one can go to any length to become rich. The king was played by the director himself, and the donkey was played by Vinod Saini.
The second play for the evening was
Maan Gaye Dulhe Bhai, staged at Ravindra Manch. Directed by Farukh Sher Khan, this was based on wedding rituals and traditions that lead to humourous incidents. The play also tried to address some serious issues in relationships. Playing a typical Indian son-in-law, Dulha Bhai was again played by the director himself.
