Ajay Devgn must deliver outside Rohit Shetty!

Slow and steady wins the race, and so is the case with class actor Ajay Devgn, who slowly but surely has climbed up to the top rung of the ladder with some super successful films recently, almost all courtesy director with the Midas touch, Rohit Shetty.

That Ajay has always been a saleable hero with a good fan following is a fact known to all those following Bollywood box-office, but his fan base and standing has shot up ever since he delivered super hits like SINGHAM, BOL BACHCHAN and SINGHAM RETURNS. All the above mentioned films were directed by his friend Rohit Shetty and all entered the elite 100 crore club.

However, Ajay Devgn's track record (of late) with other directors has been far from good. The last hit that one remembers is ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI (2010 with director Milan Luthria) and Ajay has faltered ever since, with most of his films like AKROSH, DIL TOH BACHCHA HAI JEE, RASCALS, TEZZ, HIMMATWALA, SATYGRAHA all failing at the ticket window. Ashwin Dheer's SON OF SARDAR (2012) is the only exception where Ajay has scored big with a director other than Rohit Shetty, but that too was more or less a proxy project helmed by Shetty.

With Prabhudheva's ACTION JACKSON, which released last Friday not performing as per expectations, questions are being raised as to whether Ajay Devgn can deliver big outside a Rohit Shetty venture. Just for records ACTION JACKSON netted a below par 30 crore during the opening weekend, which is just a shade higher than Ajay's box-office debacle HIMMATWALA during its opening weekend. Given the 100 crore total release cost ACTION JACKSON will find it almost impossible to break even, despite a good satellite price.

Having said that we are quite positive that the class actor will surely prove everyone wrong soon enough!
