We’ve seen our fair share of crazy Frankenstein mixes along the years but this one might just be the best one yet. Featuring an incredibly good sounding 5-liter V10 under the bonnet, this E90 3 Series is all you possibly dreamed of.
The guys from Turner Motorsport are selling the only Hartge H50 in the United States to someone that is willing to pay $105,000. Now, before we discuss if that price tag is ridiculous or not, let’s take a look at what is being offered here, shall we?
If you don’t live in Europe and you’re not a BMW aficionado you probably didn’t hear about Hartge. That’s really a shame because the German tuner is one of the oldest in the business of making unique Bimmers, being active since 1971. We guess it’s all in marketing.
However, they offer some of the best tuning parts available for BMWs at the moment, being known for their reliable expertise in the field. Apparently they also have wild side that came out somewhere in 2006.
That’s when they unveiled the H50, a hybrid between the powertrain of a BMW E60 M5 and the body of a BMW E90 325i. That’s right, they stuck a massive S85 engine with its gearbox in the bay of a 3 Series.
How about an M3?
What that did was create a monster that put M3s to shame. The weight of the car is just 3,676 lbs (1,667 kg) which is peanuts compared to what the M5 of the day and age used to weigh. Furthermore, the smaller size of the car makes it all the more appealing.
The 5-liter V10 was also tuned to make more power than the standard one, now being rated at 550 HP and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque instead of the stock 507 HP and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque it used to make.
That, as you probably imagined, makes this car extremely fast. It’s basically on par with the manual M3 of these days, doing the 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 4.3 seconds. On the other hand, it’s faster than the turbocharged version of M magic, going up to a top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h). Imagine that...
Now, about that price. Well, considering the H50 package used to cost $220,000 and that you can’t get it anymore and the fact that only 10 of these cars were ever made and this is the only one available State-side.... it’s a pretty good deal! That’s if you want a V10 soundtrack and 200 mph top speed, of course!
