Constructions along Ganga: HC seeks reply on PIL

Allahabad High Court has asked the Central and state governments as well as Central and state pollution control boards to file their respective replies, in response to a PIL seeking restrain/prohibition on constructions within 500 metres from the highest flood level of the Ganga and its tributaries.

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court has asked the Central and state governments as well as Central and state pollution control boards to file their respective replies (counter affidavits) in response to a PIL seeking restrain/prohibition on constructions within 500 metres from the highest flood level of the Ganga and its tributaries.
Hearing a PIL filed by a high court lawyer, Madhvendra Pratap Singh, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Dr Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud and Justice Pradeep Kumar Singh Baghel directed to list this PIL after six weeks for the next hearing.

Passing the above order, the court also directed to hear this PIL along with other PIL which has already been pending seeking removal of pollution from the Ganga. In this PIL, the petitioner has requested the court to stop construction within 500 meters from the Ganga and its tributaries including rivers Yamuna, Ram Ganga, Gomti, Ghaghra, Kali, Chambal, Betwa, Ken, Tons, Son, Damodar, etc.
