Police have booked an attempt to murder case against the accused

Hyderabad: A student stabbed his batchmate with a knife in front of Deccan College of Engineering and Technology at Darussalam in Nampally after they quarreled over a Facebook confession page on Tuesday.

The victim Junaid Mohiuddin, 19, escaped with an injury, while police have booked an attempt to murder case against the accused, 19-year-old Maaz Rabbani.

The incident occurred at around 9.30 am in front of the college when the two students met. They had already challenged each other on Facebook and decided to meet in front of the college before classes began. “In the middle of the altercation, Rabbani pulled out a knife concealed in his bag and stabbed the victim and left him bleeding,” said Mr R. Sanjay Kumar, Inspector, Habeeb Nagar police station.

The onlookers rushed the victim to Osmania General Hospital, where doctors said his condition was stable.

Police said that Rabbani had already planned to attack the victim and had brought a knife with him for the purpose.

The two had started the argument on a Facebook confession page in the comment section. Heated arguments took place and they had abused each other on public domain. It went on for a while, and they challenged each other to meet in front of the college in the morning, police said.

Junaid, a resident of Fateh Darwaza and Rabbani is from Santosh Nagar. Both are First Year students of the college. Following a complaint by the victim’s family, police have started an investigation. Sources said that they have taken the accused into custody.
