Sandalwood tree cut down in Pollachi

The Forest Department seized nearly 56 kilograms of sandalwood logs in Kovilpalayam near Kinathukadavu in Pollachi on Tuesday after a failed bid by a group of persons to fell a sandalwood tree and carry away the valuable timber.

According to officials, a gang attempted to cut down a tree in a residence.

The family members who were residing in the house were alerted by the noise of the tree falling on the ground and contacted the forest department.

The gang members fled the scene, and Forest Department officials seized several sandalwood logs, worth around Rs 50,000.

They would be auctioned later. The Department has registered a case and have launched a hunt for the gang.

Four sandalwood trees were felled in Perur near Noyyal area.
