Dhanbad: Seeking a decisive mandate for BJP in
Jharkhand, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the opposition was suffering from “bankruptcy” of issues and was campaigning in the state as well as in
Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the public does not forget them. The rally coincided with the third phase of polling in the two states.
“Opposition leaders are worried. They are campaigning and going to Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir to get their photographs published in newspapers and to appear on TV so that they can survive.
But they have nothing to say against the
Modi government,” Modi said at an election rally organized ahead of the fourth phase on December 14, when 15 constituencies will go to the polls. “They are repeating the speeches they made during the
Lok Sabha elections because they are facing a bankruptcy of issues. It didn’t work then, so how can it work now?” he added.
Modi’s broadside was indirectly aimed at the Congress, but he stopped short of naming anyone. He accused the
Congress of ‘lying’ and ‘betrayal’ to the people while nationalizing banks four decades back with the promise that it would help the poor and using the ‘garibi hatao (eradicate poverty)’ slogan. “But did you ever see any poor in any bank or even near one?” he asked, in his inimitable style. “No,” replied the large crowd that thronged the Barbadda airstrip ground.
