Two held for string of break-ins in Sion

Two men in their twenties – Shanbad Shaikh and Manish Chautale - were arrested from Chembur on Sunday by unit-VI crime branch for several break-ins at the Sion Hospitals’s new resident medical officer (RMO) hostel. The police have so far recovered three laptops and one tablet from them.

Three hostel rooms were broken into since October and doctors filed a police complaint stating that jewellery, electronic devices, wrist watches and even clothes were stolen from the rooms. The latest and the third break-in was on November 11 in Dr Abhay Shrivastav’s room. Shrivastav’s brand new Dell laptop was stolen along with a hard disk and a wrist watch.

Senior police inspector of unit VI, Shripad Kale said that the duo had confessed to all the crimes. “Chautale’s father often took cleaning contracts in the hostel. Therefore he and Shaikh often visited the building,” said Kale adding that the duo- residents of Prateeksha Nagar, have over 15 cases of thefts and robberies against them.
