BARASAT: Police arrested a youth from the India-Bangladesh border on Tuesday for allegedly shooting a schoolteacher in Bongaon on Tuesday.
The youth, along with two others, had actually fired three rounds at a former Trinamool Congress leader, but missed the target and the bullet hit the teacher. Police are on the lookout for two others, including a notorious Bangladeshi criminal.
The 30 year old schoolteacher, Aditi Adhikari, of Ananda Marg Primary School and a resident of Taw Bazar in Bongaon was shot in her chest after the bike-borne assailants missed their target, Huzur Ali Seikh, a former Trinamool panchayat member at Haridaspur.

The condition of the injured teacher is still critical and she is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Park Cirus.
Around 10.30am on Monday, when Seikh, the former Trinamool member of Choygharia gram panchayat, was riding his bike, the three youths, with covered faces, fired at him. One of the bullets hit the teacher who was on her way to schoolthen.
Police said a rivalry over operating the smuggling rackets at Petrapole land port area triggered several murders and attacks in the area in the recent past. Police on Tuesday picked up a local criminal, Ajam Seikh. He is an aide of another accused Iccha Seikh named in the FIR. Police are also looking for the key accused — Rassel Mondal alias ‘Boro Khoka’ — who is a notorious Bangladeshi criminal.
