HARIPUR:

Two more suicides were reported in Hazara Division over the last 48 hours, police said on Tuesday.

Police quoted family sources saying 35-year-old Ashiq Hussain, a resident of Gujjar Mohra Mohallah, was depressed due to financial woes and unemployment.

Hussain owed some money to his relatives who had been pressing him to pay it back.

Failing to sustain pressure, he shot himself with a 30-bore pistol in the courtyard of his house on Monday afternoon.

He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the wound. The second incident occurred in Darvesh village where a teenage girl consumed rat poison on Tuesday.

17-year-old Kulsoom Bibi reportedly had an argument with her mother over a family issue after which she consumed poison in her bedroom. She was rushed to Women and Children Hospital but could not survive.

Earlier, two suicide cases were reported in the division on Monday. 18-year-old Ziaur Rehman had shot himself dead after failing a college exam in Haripur.

Eighteen-year-old Irum Bibi had also committed suicide over an argument with her mother in Todoo Maira Jalala village.
