KVs to have Sanskrit in Plus Two

December 09, 2014 06:36 pm | Updated December 04, 2021 11:36 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan which runs more than 1,000 Central Schools will offer Sanskrit as an elective in senior secondary classes from next year. In a memorandum to schools, the organisation has asked them to hire teachers on contract basis for this.

Although the option existed earlier, low demand led to it being phased out. The memorandum said that the decision to revive this was taken at the Board of Governors Meeting in October.

>On Monday, the Supreme Court asked the government to clarify the implications of removing German as a third language and offering Sanskrit instead in KVs. The KVS has waived off the need to pass exams for Sanskrit this year, for students who have had to switch mid term.
