Using a hashtag is a helpful tool for different purposes. With it, you can see what’s trending online or what a lot of people are talking about in the cyberspace. In times of a typhoon, an official hashtag (like #RubyPH) is a useful way to stay updated with advisories from PAGASA as well as for the local media and government to monitor emergencies and people in need of rescuing. This is why it’s somewhat important that we, as netizens, make sure that we use it appropriately.

The use of the hashtags like #RubyPH is for PAGASA to survey people on social media especially if they need emergencies or what.
What yugatech did was right and also wrong. Right in terms of posting this and making the Filipino aware that those hashtags is to be used wisely especially when others are suffering due to the storm and others are posting that they are cozy etc. Wrong because they didn’t protect the users posts and they didn’t deem them anonymous.
Just a thought.
You might find this shocking, but…nobody has to do anything for anyone other than by agreement, choice or law. Thus, Yuga doesn’t have to protect those users’ posts — especially if those users WANTED those posts to be public in the first place.
If those users don’t want the backlash that might come with inappropriately using those hashtags or so, then they better think before they post. Up to them.

If you also think about it, anyone who posts something publicly has a tendency to be cyber bullied for whatever reason; especially if they’re using a popular/trending hashtag.
^totally agree. Most people overlook the aspect of “public” in “public profile”.
To be honest, everyone can post whatever they want. If they inappropriately used the hashtag, that’s fine… If you want to post more articles like this, please protect the users by hiding they usernames. There’s 100 percent possibility these people are gonna be cyber-bullied quickly. Think about it.
