While days continue to be hot and leave many sweaty, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says winter has already set in and temperature will dip further in the coming days.

According to IMD officials, the city is experiencing a little nip in the air and the minimum temperature has been around 17 degree Celsius.

"This is called pleasant weather in the met fraternity," said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general of IMD. However, the IMD says that the city has been witnessing major fluctuations in a day's temperature. "The maximum temperature recorded has been 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum, 16 degrees Celsius. During night, it is a little chilly with northern and north-westerly winds entering the city; whereas the afternoon winds come from the sea, which increases the humidity and the temperature," added Hosalikar.

The humidity hovers around 80% to 83% that is responsible for the hike in temperature during the daylight hours, with winds gusting at 18 kilometres per hour to 37 kilometres per hour.

Last year, the coldest day in Mumbai saw the mercury fall to 13.6 degreees Celsius, this year IMD officials are expecting a fall to at least 16 degrees Celsius.
