With arguments over change, the crowds and the anxiety about reaching your destination in time due to traffic, travelling by a bus in the city is not the most pleasant of experiences. But, fear not, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) is trying to impart a bit of colour to your everyday commute.
The Corporation is playing comedy clips and songs in around 20 air conditioned buses across the city. “We are trying it on a trial basis,” says a MTC official. Besides, details of various government schemes are also being displayed in the monitor.
The clips provide information to commuters on the procedure to benefit from the schemes. “We constantly keep updating it as and when new projects are announced,” the official adds. Besides, the MTC has also connected the device with GPS-enabled voice announcements in these buses on some routes.
“We are planning to introduce announcements inside the buses about the scheduled stops and the estimated time needed to reach them. As of now, we are resolving some technical issues,” the official explains.
Though many commuters say that the television is proving to be a good form of entertainment during travel, they feel the MTC can tie up with the Southern Railway and Chennai Metrorail to provide train timings too. “This will help the passengers to a great extent, especially those who are new to Chennai,” says P. Mohit, a passenger who travels to Broadway by bus regularly.
