December 08, 2014 08:19 am | Updated 08:19 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

A pleasant surprise is in store for diehard fans of ‘Maestro’ Ilaiyaraja. The music composer, popularly known as the ‘God of Music,’ will appear on Bell Pins Grounds here on January 17 at a musical concert to be presented by his ‘yuvraj’ and music director Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Though Mr. Ilaiyaraja has organised music concerts in Chennai as well as Madurai a few months ago, this is the first time the legend has scheduled to visit to Nellai on the last day of the ‘Pongal celebrations 2015’ as part of the proposed programme christened ‘Yuvan Musical Express – Nellai Santhippu’.

Speaking to reporters at AAR Royal Park Hotel here on Saturday night, Mr. Yuvan Shankar Raja said leading singers, besides his cousins Venkat Prabhu and Premji, would be participating in the concert. “The event, being organized by Green Trees Solution, will have some interesting features to be conducted by Venkat Prabhu and Prem,” said Mr. Yuvan Shanar Raja.

When asked if he would be orchestrating some of ‘Raja Sir’s’ evergreen melodies, a delicately smiling Mr. Yuvan replied in the negative. “Appa’s songs are really difficult to play with cent per cent perfection”. “We will try”, he said to persistent questions from reporters.
