KANNUR: Tension prevailed in many parts of the district on Sunday following a series of bomb attacks Payyannur and Mattanur.
Payyannur police have registered seven cases following the bomb attacks and other attacks in which the houses of seven BJP workers and two CPM workers were damaged. Police said the attacks began since Saturday night and in many parts the attacks happened in the early hours of Sunday.
Apart from the houses two cars and two motor bikes were also damaged.
Though six people were injured in the attacks none of them are serious said police. The attacks happened in Kankol, Vellur and Ramanthali areas, affecting the law and order situation.
In Sivapuram near Mattannur, under Maloor police station limits, the CPM and BJP workers clashed over some flex boards in the locality following which an arts club controlled by the CPM was attacked and completely damaged. Police said two cases have been registered in this connection. Meanwhile, in Karetta under the same police station limits BJP-CPM workers clashed in the evening following which a case has been registered but not arrest has been made so far.
In the last few weeks BJP-CPM clashes have been reported from many parts of the district, thus posing concern about the law and order situation. The BJP's public rally on December 1 in Payyannur, on the occasion of the martyrdom say of slain Yuva Morcha leader K T Jayakrishnan, had further had further escalated the tension between the CPM and the BJP.
However, police said things are under control and combing operations have started to nab the accused.
