Women's basketball: A&M holds off TCU; Davis scores 43 in Baylor rout

FORT WORTH - Courtney Walker and No. 5 Texas A&M used their defense to overcome a sloppy game on the offensive side for the Aggies.

Walker scored 21 points, and Texas A&M held TCU to 33 percent shooting in an 82-71 victory Sunday.

Courtney Williams had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Aggies (9-0), who led 31-21 at the break. Jordan Jones added 13 points and six assists.

"We knew this was a trap game," Texas A&M coach Gary Blair said. "I have always had trouble playing anywhere at TCU because they always come to play and do a great job. They never give up, and they hung in there."

The Aggies had a 70-53 lead after Walker made a jumper with 3:47 to go. But TCU (4-3) responded with a 10-2 run to get within nine.

Curtyce Knox then hit two free throws with 1:46 remaining to get Texas A&M back on track.

Zahna Medley scored 19 points for the Horned Frogs, and Donielle Breaux had 12 points and seven rebounds. Chelsea Prince added 10 points, seven boards and six steals.

Baylor 96, Mississippi 54

Nina Davis scored a career-high 43 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the No. 11 Lady Bears to a rout of the Rebels in Oxford, Miss.

Tied at 15 with 11:55 to play in the first half, Baylor closed on 29-4 run to take a 44-19 lead at the break. Davis scored 20 points in the first half, including the last seven points of the half.

Davis was 14-of-17 from the floor and made 15 of 19 free throws. She surpassed her previous career-best of 32 points against Western Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

Niya Johnson had 11 assists and Kristina Higgins grabbed 10 boards for Baylor (6-1), which shot 34-of-61 from the field for 55.7 percent.

Tia Faleru had nine points, 12 rebounds and five blocks to lead Mississippi (6-3).

South Carolina 51Duke 50

A'ja Wilson's putback with 1.8 seconds left lifted the No. 1 Gamecocks past the ninth-ranked Blue Devils in Durham, N.C.

Asia Dozier scored 11 points and Wilson finished with 10 for the Gamecocks (8-0), who trailed by four with less than 20 seconds left before rallying for their first road win over a top-10 team in nearly three years.

Rebecca Greenwell had 12 points and foul-plagued All-American Elizabeth Williams had all five of hers in the final 41/2 minutes. Duke (5-3) had 22 turnovers and is on its first three-game losing streak since 2007-08.

Chelsea Gardner had 22 points and eight rebounds, and the Jayhawks upset the No. 10 Bears in Lawrence, Kan.

Alabama 53, Nebraska 51

Nikki Hegstetter scooped a loose ball off the floor to score with less than two seconds to play, and the Crimson Tide survived a missed final shot to upset the 12th-ranked Huskers in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Tennessee 85Lipscomb 51

Cierra Burdick and Isabelle Harrison scored 16 points apiece to lead the No. 14 Lady Vols past the Lady Bisons in Nashville, Tenn., for their first road victory of the season.

Janee Thompson scored 19 points, and Jennifer O'Neill added 17 to help the No. 13 Wildcats beat the No. 7 Cardinals in Louisville, Ky.

Prairie View A&M 61Houston 56

Jeanette Jackson scored a season-high 28 points and added seven rebounds and four assists to lead the Lady Panthers past the Cougars at Hofheinz Pavilion. It was Prairie View's first win over UH in 16 tries.
