Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Dr T. Rajaiah rushed to the Gandhi Hospital on Sunday morning when he was informed that victims of an accident were not being attended to by the doctors.
A family of eight, who were traveling from Yadgirigutta in a car, had met with an accident on the Outer Ring Road. Seven of them were rushed to the Gandhi Hospital at 3 am on Sunday night but they found that the doctors were not attending to them.
Their relatives then called upon the deputy Chief Minister who visited the hospital at 8.30 am and asked the doctors to take proper care of the patients.
Dr Rajaiah said, “I came here because the patients’ relatives called my office. As I have decided to pay surprise visits to hospitals, I took this as an opportunity to do the same.
Also, patients feel good if the problem is addressed personally by me.”
The patients were being treated in the orthopedic ward. Dr Rajaiah went straight to the ward and asked the doctors to take proper care of the patients and warned them that his office should not receive further complaints about lack of proper care.
Two other accident victims, Tulsika and Laxmi, had suffered minor injuries and were being treated in the general ward.
A senior doctor at Gandhi Hospital said, “He was a little upset because of the complaint by patients.
He again pointed out that the government had sanctioned Rs 100 crore for upgradation of facilities and these funds must be utilised properly.”
The staff in turn complained about shortage and inability to cope up with work and the deputy CM promised that the issue would be addressed after the bifurcation of employees.
