BMS seeks payment of arrears to staff of Hindustan Shipyard

The management of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has paid the wage revision arrears to executives while leaving the staff and workmen to their fate. The contention of the Ministry is that arrears would be paid, if the financial position is improved as per the wage revision agreement, according to Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh All India secretary M. Jagadiswara Rao.

In a letter to the Secretary in the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday, Mr. Jagadiswara Rao noted that the employees (staff and workmen) of HSL were due for payment of arrears since 2009. While denying the payment of arrears to employees, the same was being paid to executives despite losses. He appealed to the Secretary to arrange for a special grant of Rs.100 crore to HSL for payment of gratuity to retired employees from October 2012 along with payment of wage revision arrears to the existing staff and workmen.

He also sought regularisation of the services of ‘L and M’ series of employees, who were on production jobs and even deprived of their fair wages ignoring the principle of ‘equal wages for equal work’ and implementation of the post-retirement pension and medical scheme for HSL employees as per DPE guidelines.

The other demands include: recognition to the INC Mazdoor Sangh in Naval Dockyard, as it had secured 15 per cent votes in the Federation Secret Ballot held two years ago, implementation of the rehabilitation package for the families affected by the Naval Base at Rambilli and provision of employment to at least one member in each family affected by the project and establishment of a CGHS Hospital in Visakhapatnam as it has number of Defence Establishments like NSTL, Naval Dockyard, Naval Base, NAD, DRDO, HSL and BDL in which thousands of Central Government employees were working.
