US-based Overland Conveyor Company, which has the expertise to build conveyor systems of up to 20 km, has agreed to provide its technology to Bevcon Wayors, a bulk material handling and processing company.

Currently, longest conveyors in India take goods up to 14 km.

The two companies will first work together for a project Bevcon is implementing for Shree Cements, which is owned by Kolkata’s Bangur Group. The ₹15-crore project involves carrying limestone from a mine to the company’s Raipur cement plant, a distance of 1.5 km. The order to be completed by December-end involves transporting 3,000 tonnes/hour, said Y Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad-based Bevcon.

While Indian conveyors can carry a maximum 5,000-6,000 tonnes/hr, Overland’s conveyors can move up to 9,000-10,000 tonnes/hr.

Reddy said the agreement currently covered design, engineering, manufacture, erection and commissioning of the systems.

In India, industries in the power, mining and mineral, and cement sectors can make use of these longer conveyors. The major players in the business include ThyssenKrupp, FLS, Elecon and TRF.

“We have now created engineering teams for this special business vertical, which has potential to bring in ₹150-₹200 crore in the next few years,” Reddy said.
