10 injured in Jan Shatabdi Express train accident

Ten passengers sustained injuries when a JCB (excavating machine) fell on the railway tracks between Kankavali and Sindhudurg on Sunday evening on the Konkan Railway route, hitting the Jan Shatabdi Express that was on its way to Mumbai.

“The machine was of a private party conducting quarrying activity close to the railway track,” informed an official.

The casualties were transferred to local hospital in ambulances. Railway authorities have started a probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, local police have booked those involved in quarrying works for negligence.
