ALLAHABAD: The anniversary of
Babri Masjid demolition was observed solemnly on Saturday. While activists of CPI (ML) New Democracy staged a protest against division of society on communal lines at district collectorate, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists took out a march in Civil Lines.
Welfare Party of India submitted a memorandum to
President Pranab Mukhejee seeking his intervention in expediting hearing of cases regarding the title suit pending in the Supreme Court.
CPI(ML) New Democracy activists also staged a sit-in and observed the day as anti-communalism day. The speakers focused on Hindutva forces campaigns against minorities and communalization of day-to-. They also demanded justice to victims of
Muzaffarnagar anti-Muslim riots.
They also opposed
saffronisation of education by
RSS and said that history was being substituted by mythology, scientific enquiry by faith and fantasies were being projected as facts.
The speakers demanded development and security of agriculture and villages, reduction in input costs of diesel, seeds, fertilizer, making agriculture profitable, providing solar energy on roof tops to give free electricity, development of high tech health, education and computer facilities in villages and ban on replacing villages with cities.
Meanwhile, VHP activists took out a march in the city on Saturday and celebrated the day as 'Shaurya Diwas'. They recited Hanuman Chalisa at Subhash Crossing and then marched up to Hanuman Temple. The activists took a pledge to build a grand Ram temple.
Activists of Welfare Party of India handed over a memorandum addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee through the district magistrate. They demanded expediting hearing in cases related to title suit pending before the Supreme Court.
It also urged that hearing in criminal cases related to demolition of masjid against leaders of the BJP and Sangh Pariwar too be expedited.
