Student alleges rape

In yet another incident at the Visva-Bharti University at Santiniketan, West Bengal, a Bangladeshi student has alleged rape by a senior student. The accused also from Bangladesh, is a Ph.D scholar in the university and local guardian of the girl.

“We have arrested the accused and he was produced before a local court on Saturday,” Surya Pratap Yadav, the sub-divisional police oficer, Bolpur, told The Hindu on the phone.

The police said the Class XII student of Patha Bhavan, had alleged that the accused had also blackmailed her, threatening to upload certain objectionable photographs of her on the Internet. The student alleged that she had been threatened, blackmailed and raped for over five months.

The complaint was lodged on Friday. The police have sought custody of the accused.
