Man held on rape charge

The District Rural Police have arrested a person on charges of raping a woman and forcing her to undergo abortion.

According to the police, P. Chinnasamy (32) of Thudiyalur, who was working as an electrician, had promised to marry the complainant, a 26-year-old woman.

However, he later reneged on his promise after she became pregnant.

He also allegedly forced her to undergo an abortion. Later, he had threatened her life if she told anyone about the incident.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the All Women Police Station at Thudiyalur registered a case on Friday. Sections 376 (rape), 417 (cheating), 313 (Causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) and 506 (ii)(threat be to cause death) of the Indian Penal Code besides provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Harassment of Women Act. Chinnasamy has been remanded in custody. Investigations are on.
