Rumblers must on Cidco roads, corporator says

The corporator of ward number 45 of Cidco area, Ratnamala Rane, will meet commissioner of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) Pravin Gedam to press for the demand of rumblers or speed-breakers in different areas of the ward on the backdrop of frequent accidents due to vehicular traffic.

NASHIK: The corporator of ward number 45 of Cidco area, Ratnamala Rane, will meet commissioner of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) Pravin Gedam to press for the demand of rumblers or speed-breakers in different areas of the ward on the backdrop of frequent accidents due to vehicular traffic.
Rane said, "After Friday's accident near Shubham Park in which a 10-year-old girl was injured, we have decided to meet NMC commissioner Gedam to press for rumblers in different parts of the ward.
Amid heavy traffic in the Cidco area, there is a huge rush of students due to the presence of two big educational institutes there - Uttamnagar college and Janata Vidyalaya. We even met traffic department officials a few months ago to press for the demand."
The corporator said she had demanded rumblers in Saibaba Nagar, near Uttam Nagar College, Janata Vidyalaya and Kasturi Sweets.
On Friday, Neha Varade (10) was injured in an accident near the Shubham Park area along Ambad-Link Road in Cidco. The girl was riding pillion on the scooter her mother Sashikant was riding. A truck moving towards the Trimurti Chowk area knocked down the scooter after which the girl suffered injuries on her legs. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital. However, an irate mob roughed up the truck driver, Ashok Sonawane.
Senior traffic officials said the rush of vehicular traffic in the Cidco area had increased tremendously with hardly any space left for pedestrians. They added that there were many punctures on the main roads in Cidco, which led to petty accidents. Officials also said that if there was a demand to set up rumblers in the area they would send a proposal in this regard to the civic body.
A traffic policeman, who did not want to be named, said Cidco residents had encroached on roads without giving any thought to its effect on vehicular traffic. He added that on their part traffic officials were regularly taking action against rash drivers, those riding triple seat and heavy vehicles near Shubham Park, Trimuti Chowk and Pawan Nagar.

In February last year, a 5-year-old student of Don Bosco High School was killed in a road accident near Prasad Mangal Karyalay on Gangapur Road when a speeding truck hit the autorickshaw in which he was travelling. Four other students in the rickshaw suffered minor injuries, while the rickshaw driver was critically injured. After the accident, the civic administration had put up speed breakers on the stretch.
