NHRC calls Bharti in Khirki case
NEW DELHI: National Human Rights Commission has asked Delhi's former law minister Somnath Bharti to appear before it in connection with the Khirki Extension raid episode.
The commission agreed to Bharti's plea that he also be "impleaded" as a party to an ongoing suo moto proceeding and be permitted to convey his stand.
In a recent letter to Bharti and his advocate Deepak Khosla, NHRC said Bharti or his lawyer can appear before it on December 8 and make their submissions.
The commission also agreed to give him copies of the various probe reports into the incident, including B L Garg report and the one prepared by Delhi Police.
Bharti had earlier written to NHRC through Khosla pointing out that the commission conducted proceedings and granted compensation to the African women via an ex-parte order and never gave him an opportunity to explain his version. In view of this, Bharti urged it to make him a party to the proceedings.
In January this year, NHRC took suo motu cognizance of the incident.
