ITF junior tennis: Goveas triumphs

India’s Aryan Goveas stunned top-seed Jay Clarke (Great Britain) 7-6(6), 6-3 in boys’ singles final at the Gadre-MSLTA ITF junior tennis championships here on Saturday. The girls’ final was won by Thailand’s Plobrung Plipuech when she defeated top-seed Tamachan Momkoonthod (Thailand) 7-5, 6-4.

Goveas grabbed the first set in the tie-breaker, and then gained a break in the second game in the second set to force a win in 105 minutes.

Plipuech wrested initiative with breaks in the 12th and ninth games in the first and second sets respectively to win in 107 minutes.

The results: Final: Boys: Singles: Aryan Goveas bt Jay Clarke (GBr) 7-6(6), 6-3. Doubles: Vasisht Cheruku / Sahil Deshmukh (Ind) bt Clarke / Kareem Allaf (Syr) 6-2, 6-3.

Girls: Singles: Plobrung Plipuech (Tha) bt Tamachan Momkoonthod (Tha) 7-5, 6-4. Doubles: Hsiang-Wei Huang (Taipei) / Zeel Desai (Ind) bt Georgina Axon (GBr) / Vasanti Shinde (Ind) 3-6, 6-3(10-6).
