Yo Yo’s ‘The Shaukeens’ songs rake up controversy

A city based Non Government Organisation (NGO) Mahatar Sathi Jagriti Manch, has sought immediate ban on the two songs composed by the singer for the recently released bollywood flick ‘The Shaukeens’, alleging that the wording and screening of these songs was vulgar, obscene and creating public nuisance.

LUDHIANA: Yo Yo Honey Singh’s songs have courted controversy yet again.
A city based Non Government Organisation (NGO) Mahatar Sathi Jagriti Manch, has sought immediate ban on the two songs composed by the singer for the recently released bollywood flick ‘The Shaukeens’, alleging that the wording and screening of these songs was vulgar, obscene and creating public nuisance.
After writing to the Supreme Court through a mail, the representatives of NGO have now filed a formal complaint with the local court seeking action against Honey Singh, the director of movie Abhishek Singh, lead actor Akshay Kumar and others.

The complaint filed through advocate Amit Tandon mentioned that already Punjab was grappling with the drug menace and the songs by Yo Yo Honey Singh like ‘Manali Trance” and “Haan Main Alcoholic Hoon” would further encourage drug abuse amongst the youngsters.
Speaking to TOI, Kimti Rawal, President of Mahatar Sathi Jagriti Manch, which works against drug abuse and crime in the city, said such songs were inciting youngsters to take liquor and drugs and needed to be banned.
The complaint which is likely to come up for hearing in the court on Saturday, mentioned youngsters’ addiction to drugs, could ultimately lead to diseases like Cancer, heart attack and other infections.
“Through the complaint we have requested the Court to summon, try and punish the accused under various provisions for obscene acts and songs, public nuisance, negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life, making atmosphere noxious to health, for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment and for common intention,” said Amit Tandon, the counsel representing the NGO.
