“Southern districts export products to nearly 90 countries and products ranging from cocoa pith to dry flowers are in demand. The export of ‘appalam’ to Asian countries can also be explored,” said V. Kumar, Branch Manager of Export Credit Guarantee Corporation, on Friday

Addressing a seminar on ‘Export opportunities and documentation procedures’ organised by Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) here, Mr. Kumar noted that many unexplored opportunities for export were available in the southern districts for potential investors and entrepreneurs. Seventy-five small-scale entrepreneurs from south Tamil Nadu attended the seminar and took part in the interactive session on export opportunities and procedures to be followed.

Delivering the inaugural address, Ganapathy Ramanathan, Assistant Director General of Foreign Trade, said entrepreneurs interested in expanding operations and getting into exportcould contact the Directorate General of Foreign Trade to get a clear picture of procedures to be followed.

“There are many people who are hesitant to get into exports since they are unaware of the procedures and documentation process. Most of the information is available online and we encourage them to contact the department and interact with officials,” she said.

“In the southern region, there are a number of agro-products that entrepreneurs can consider for export. Five per cent credit is also offered on the foreign exchange received by entrepreneurs through export trade,,” Ms. Ramanathan added.

The seminar had sessions on how to register an export business , opportunities for products from Tamil Nadu, legal factors in product selection, pricing, approaching buyers and financial assistance for exports.
