Hundreds of advocates taking out protest-march on Friday condemning assault attempt on a judge.

Hundreds of advocates, under the banner of Raichur Bar Association, took out a protest march through major streets of the city and staged a demonstration outside the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Friday condemning the attempt to physically assault II Additional District and Sessions Judge Narayana at Basaveshwar circle here on Thursday.

They raised slogans alleging that the police were deliberately protecting the accused by not mentioning the names of the all attackers in the First Information Report (FIR).

“Around eight youth including Muhammad Nasiruddin and Jameer Pasha verbally abused and attempted to physically attack the judge in the court premises. Though a complaint was lodged with the police in the connection, the Sadar Bazar police arrived to the court and tried to convince the judge as not to register a case. When their persuasion of judge for compromise failed, they, in order to favour the accused, registered a weak FIR by not mentioning the other accused in it”, N. Bhanuraj, president of Bar Association alleged.

He demanded for a disciplinary action against police sub-inspector, Dadawali attached to Sadar Bazar police station for his alleged dereliction of duty.

The agitating advocates raised questions about the poor level of safety for public in the city where high profile individuals such as district judges were not safe. They demanded additional security measures at court premises.

The court proceedings were upset as all the lawyers did not participate in the court proceedings as a token of protest. The people who were unaware of the agitation had to experience inconvenience.

Bar Association leaders K. Gopalkrishna, Prabhudev Patil Kareddi, Huligeppa Mnik, K. Prahalad Raod and other senior and junior advocates were present.
