ALLAHABAD: Indian Railways will be outsourcing the cleanliness work at major stations to private agencies. The work at around 50 stations countrywide will be outsourced including stations of Allahabad, Kanpur and Jhansi under North Central Railway.
Even the medical/commercial officers, incharge of the station cleanliness and chief health inspectors have been directed to visit airports, five-star hotels and corporate hospitals to learn their maintenance methods and replicate the same at these stations.

The integrated cleanliness programme will cover the whole geographical area of the station including tracks, platforms, all parts of the building, concourse, approach road and parking area.
In case of an enroute station, the area between the two home signals will be covered whereas in case of a terminal station, from the entry to the circulating areas to the home signal will be included in the cleanliness work.
The area to be cleaned includes tracks, rag picking, disinfection, pest and rodent control, garbage collection, segregation of waste and disposal of waste.
The 50 stations the country which have been selected for the integrated cleanliness are Nasik Road, Solapur, Jalgaon, Howrah, Sealdah, Bhagalpur, Patna, Mughalsarai, Gaya, Vishakapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Puri, New Delhi, Delhi, Varanasi, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Allahabad, Kanpur, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow Jn, Kathgodam, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Kishanganj, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Chennai Central, Egmore, Trivandrum Central, Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Ranchi, Raipur, Bilaspur, Drug, Hospet, Vasco Da Gama, Belgaum, Mumbai Central Main, Bandra Terminus, Vadodara, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Kota. Talking to TOI, chief public relations officer, NCR, said, “Railway board has given instructions for integrated cleanliness at the stations which will help the passengers. In the NCR zone, there are three stations where integrated cleanliness will be undertaken at Allahabad, Kanpur and Jhansi and the whole process will be mechanized.

According to the directions issued, steam cleaners would be used to remove stains from all smooth surfaces such as floors, walls, wash-basins, urinals etc. Use of bio-enzyme products will be done to kill odour in the urinals and concrete aprons on the tracks. The surface of the platform, concourse area including the cladding of the walls would be reviewed and broken Kota/Shahabad stones or granites will be replaced for easy cleaning.
CCTVs already installed or under installation as a part of the integrated security scheme will be utilized for monitoring cleanliness activities. The railway division will prescribe the details of the uniform and the protective gear will be provided to the staff.
