Stolen truck, copper worth 1.1crore recovered

Highway robbers gang on Wednesday stole a truck laden with Rs 96 lakh worth of copper from near Vedchhi cross roads in Vyara town of Tapi district.

SURAT: Highway robbers gang on Wednesday stole a truck laden with Rs 96 lakh worth of copper from near Vedchhi cross roads in Vyara town of Tapi district. The truck was later traced near Tarapur town of Anand district and the stolen goods were recovered. The total estimated cost of the truck and the copper was Rs 1.10 crore.
The gang members who arrived in three SUVs, forcefully stopped the truck near the Vedchhi crossroads.
A couple of members kidnapped the cleaner and took him to a remote location in one of the vehicles, while others took off with the truck towards Vadodara.
The incident came to light when truck driver Rameshwar Ratan Singh Pandor, lodged complaint at the Vyara police station. The truck was transporting copper from Silvassa to Pethampura in Madhya Pradesh, the plaint said.
“The cleaner was released a few hours after of the truck was stolen. It seems that the cleaner was kidnapped to pressurise the driver to delay police complaint. The truck might have crossed Vadodara when the cleaner was released,” said K N Damor, superintendent of police, Tapi.
The police later traced the truck near a village in Tarapur taluka of Anand district using the global positioning system fitted inside the truck.
