A $6 starter for the 1000m Benchmark 45 handicap, the horse won by less than a length ahead of favourite Hot Topic.
Despite only having the horse since the Kempsey Cup, Mr Ratcliff said the charger has made impressive progress since he arrived.
“When we first got him, you could see he had plenty of potential,” he said.
“He had a strong trial a couple of weeks ago which made me think we should back him in a race. He has previously won over 1200m so the longer distances are an option.”
The horse is owned by Mr Ratcliffe and Kempsey Racing committee member Jamie Edwards.
Next up for the five year old is a trip to Port Macquarie where he will race in the 1100m event.
