From Aston Martin with Love: The New James Bond Car Is Revealed

This article is more than 9 years old.

The world's most debonair spy will chase villains in the revved up new Aston Martin DB10 for Spectre, the next installment in the James Bond series due out late next year.

Designed in collaboration between Aston Martin and the film's producers, there will only be 10 DB10s produced, each made to "bespoke" specifications. Aston Martin and Bond director Sam Mendes unveiled the new model during a special presenation today.

“The DB10 gives a glimpse to the future design direction for the next generation of Aston Martins,” reads the press release.

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Bond for Spectre, with Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomi Harris returning from Skyfall and Christopher Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Andrew Scott and Monica Bellucci also signed-on.

There are unconfirmed rumors Craig will also drive a Fiat 500 in the film.

While other companies have featured their fair share of cars and convertibles in the films throughout the years, Aston Martin has a particularly storied history with Bond, with vehicles in 11 films, spanning 50 years. But the original Bond car first appeared in print, in Ian Fleming's 1959 book, "Goldfinger," where the author wrote that his protagonist drove through Europe in the Aston Martin DB3.

It was the Aston Martin DB5 that first debuted in the film adaptation of that book, Goldfinger in 1964 (it was the most recent Aston Martin available). The next year, Thunderball  used the same two DB5s from Goldfinger, but enhanced - in true secret agent style - with a rear-facing water canon and a boot-stowed jetpack.

1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service featured the DBS, which went from 0 to 60 in less than six seconds. It took two decades for another Aston Martin to appear, this time in the form of the V8 Vantage for Timothy Dalton's debut turn as Bond. Volante and coupe versions of the Vantage were featured in that film, and the vehincles boasted outriggers and tire spikes..

The DB5 returned in the Pierce Brosnan-starring 1995 flick GoldenEye. The actor became the first to drive two different Aston Martins, with the sleek V12 Vanquish starring in 2002's Die Another Day. Daniel Craig's first appearance as Bond saw him driving the Aston Martin DBS and the DB5 in the 2006 installation, Casino Royale. The DBS reappeared in  Quantum of Solace  in 2008.

Finally, nearly 50 years after its first appearance in 1964, the iconic DB5 returned for its sixth appearnace in a Bond film in 2012's Skyfall.
