CRICKET: Gayle free to visit West Indies team in South Africa, says WI manager

West Indies team manager Richie Richardson says he is not aware of the extent of Chris Gayle's injury, which has ruled him out of the upcoming Test series against South Africa.

Although the explosive Jamaican batsman has pulled out of the West Indies squad, he will turn out for his South African franchise, the Lions, in Sunday’s Ram Slam Twenty20 playoff.

Richardson says he will be replaced by batsman Devon Smith.

Gayle is scheduled to leave South Africa after the Lions' campaign ends, but Richardson says he has no problem if the batsman wants to visit the team before his departure.

West Indies are due to play three Tests, three Twenty20s and five One-Day Internationals against South Africa from December 17 before heading to the World Cup.
