Yakeen swamps field with brilliant display

By: Stay Thirsty   December 3 , 2014

Bobby trained Yakeen who had matched strides with some top classes of this centre, brooked no opposition in the 1200 metres Sahyadri Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. Triumphant who was returning to the track after a longish break from racing found Yakeen too speedy for comfort and barely managed to finish second in a cluster finish.

The odds on Triumphant drifted close to race time with Yakeen coming for inspired support. Triumphant had to his credit one run of the mill win at Bangalore but on the basis of his brilliant workouts, ended up as the favourite. On the other hand, Yakeen had solid racing form having run some game races during her career, including her last start when she was an impressive second, shocked in the final stages by Commanding Heights. Jockey Mahesh took Yakeen on a start to finish mission and the four year old filly showed so much speed in the straight, that all the horses including Triumphant were stranded. Triumphant held off Divine Friendship and Supreme in a tight finish for the second slot.

Lesser fancied Flirting King barely held on by the skin of his teeth to win the 1200 metres Dandeli Plate, a race for lowest category horses. Flirting King was strongly pressured by Magnetic Power in the final furlong but the latter however weakened close home, reportedly pulling up lame. Shining Fame closed with a rush and it looked as though she had measured the lesser fancied runner but was short by the proverbial whisker.

Michael Eshwer trained Miranda got the better of Perfectionist to win the 1200 metres Fame and Glory Plate, a race for two year olds. Favourite Shresth was not up to justifying favouritism and finished poorly. Perfectionist led from the start but was strongly challenged by Miranda who gradually got better and won the race in the final stages of the race.

Santosh Rao trained Happiness has always found her bearings in the lowest class as all her favour previous wins had come in the same class. Now back to her comfort zone, the seven year old fought on resolutely to retain the initiative and held off the determined bid of Golden Steps to pull off a narrow win Tandav finished late to take the third spot.

Eshwer had double for the day as Constantine who has been relocated from Mumbai gave a bold show, going into the lead within the first furlong and then winning by big space over Majestic Queen and Country`s Nobility the 1100 metres Crown Treasure Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Bobby trained Dominica steadily asserted her supremacy in the straight and went sailing clear to win the lower division of the race by a convincing margin over Thundering Cruise.

Spiritual Blue engaged front running Divine Love in a stiff battle for supremacy and overhauled the latter in the shadow of the post to win the 1400 metres Pattadakal Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Castle King was a close third ahead of Bucethalis. Favourite Nanuk stayed in touch with the front runner till the final furlong before weakening to finish off the frame.

Tejaswi trained Delta Delight looked vulnerable throughout the straight but still managed to head home in the 1400 metres Mekedaatu Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Pamushana essayed a strong challenge deep in the final furlong but weakened to go out of reckoning. Saratoga Spring who has never lived up to the promise as a juvenile flashed home late only to miss the berth narrowly.
