Kampala. Most of the focus ahead of the FIM Africa Central Africa Motocross Championship at Busiika this Sunday has understandably been about the MX1 category.
This, especially because American MX1 guest rider Daniel Sedlakwho is expected to grace the event.
There is also tough competition expected among Ugandans Maxime Van Pee and Arthur Blick (first and third) as well as the Kenyans Tutu Maina, Ivan Guya and Samir Sherman who occupy second, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
For Uganda to win the championship for the first time since 2102 however, Unisan Bakunda, currently eighth in the MX1 category, believes emphasis should be put on the MX85 and MX 65 categories.
“With riders such as Ali Omar, Alestair Blick and Fortune Ssentamu, Uganda stands a good chance of swinging the championship if they can concentrate on Sunday,” Bakunda explained. After winning the first round, Omar lost the second of the three round championships to Kenyan Elias Sherman, who as a result helped Kenya lead MX 85CC class 395-335 going into Sunday’s race.
Ssentamu’s presence should also help Uganda overturn the 46-point deficit in the MX65 class having missed the opening round before returning to win the second in Kenya. Overall, Uganda (2,362 points) trails Kenya by 315 points.
