VARANASI: The placement season at the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University which began on Monday saw software major Oracle and internet-related services and products provider Google hiring two budding technocrats of IIT-BHU offering Rs 1 crore+ package each. Last year, the highest package was offered by Microsoft of Rs 65 lakh. It suggests a jump of about 35% in the highest segment salary.
According to the sources of Training and Placement Cell of IIT-BHU, 50 students got jobs on Tuesday only with 56 job offers. Some of them received two offers. So far about 200 students got offers from various national and multinational companies in this season, while last year about 650 students were placed.
The professor in-charge of placement cell Dr Anil Kumar Agarwal is hopeful that the placement season would bring good job opportunities in greater number to students with increased packages.
According to placement sources, on Monday about 21 international and Indian companies including Google, Oracle, Microsoft, Goldman, Wallmart, Amazon took part in placement process that began from 8am and continued till 11pm.
On Tuesday, 56 job offers came from a number of startup companies offering packages of Rs 12-17 lakh, while on Wednesday, when the placement process was in progress with six companies, a multinational company offered a package of Rs 35 lakh for posting in Japan or Singapore.
It is expected that more than 100 companies will join recruitment process for final placement that will continue till December 21. According to the placement calendar, the first phase of recruitment process for final placement is being held from December 1 to 21, while the second phase would begin from January 2.
The placement season runs through the course of the year commencing the last week of July through to March. Pre-placement talks are also conducted in this regard as per mutual convenience.
