Alarming crime pattern, volume on the rise
JAIPUR: Despite the fact that there is an alarming rise in crime in the city not only in numbers but also in pattern, the Jaipur police commissionerate is beating the same old trumpet of lack of manpower and vacant posts.
Since its inception in 2011, the officers at the commissionerate have been talking about the resources and manpower crunch.
Be it Chitrakoot case in which a jeweller family was robbed and a woman was raped or a banker's wife was murdered in Mahesh Nagar, the pattern of crime has been alarming.

Similarly, in another case, a 21-year-old boy was not only kidnapped and murdered in Karni Vihar but his fingers were chopped off and sent to his family. Thought police have made arrests in these cases, it appears that their attempt in prevention of crime is half-hearted.
Senior police officers also said that in many of the crimes in which family members and known people are involved, it is difficult to prevent these crimes. "These crimes can be stopped only with a strict prosecution and prompt arrests of the accused," said a senior officer on Wednesday.
According to the comparative figures from Jaipur police commissionerate between October 2013 to October 2014, there was a drop in the dacoity cases as in October, 2013 five cases of dacoity were registered while in 2014 till October, 3 cases were registered.

There has been a significant rise in the number of attempts to murder cases. Seventy-nine such cases were registered in 2013 where as the number has gone up to 92 till October in 2014.
"There has been an increase in the number of rape cases. Till October this year, 221 cases were registered in Jaipur," said an official.
Similarly, there has been an increase in the number of loot, kidnap and theft cases. Jaipur is presently not only witnessing the petty crime such as snatching of cash bags, mobile phones and chain but cases like dacoity and murder are alarming.
Senior police officers on the increased figures such as loot, attempt to murder and rape said that many a times even if a person has found snatching away the mobile phone or cash bag of a woman, police book them for loot and even outraging the modesty of a woman.
"Many a times to get maximum penalty for the accused, we add certain Sections including outraging the modesty," said an officer.
Though in many of the cases police were able to make arrests, many cases such as Vidhyadhar Nagar murder case of a youth who was killed almost two years ago is still unsolved.
When contacted, Junga Sriniwas Rao, commissioner of police, said. "I don't think there is much rise in the serious crime in Jaipur but yes there is of course a change in the crime pattern in Jaipur."
Bipin Kumar Pandey, additional commissioner of police (Crime) on the figures, said, "In rape cases, there is much awareness. Thus number of registered cases has increased. Our aim is to solve the case and make a strong chargesheet against the culprits so that crime could be checked. "
On the other hand Jaipur commissionerate is also struggling with resources as almost 1,500 posts are vacant for a long time.
