Hell hath no fury like the common man scorned. Ungli pitches itself as a cathartic vehicle for the prevailing societal rage against a corrupt system. According to this film, when all recourse fails, the only answer is vigilantism.
So ace crime reporter Abhay (Hooda), Maya (Ranaut) a medical intern, Goti (Neil Bhoopalam) an expert geek, and mechanic Kalim (Angad Bedi), take the law into their own hands after a friend of theirs is manhandled by the son of a powerful figure.
Targeting everyone from errant auto rickshaw drivers to lazy public of f icial s , the group soon becomes a menace. Upright cop ACP Kale (Dutt) entrusts the task of nabbing them to bomb squad member Nikhil (Hashmi).
Terrorists can wait, the Ungli gang can't. What follows after is a predictable battle of good vs evil marked by underwhelming performances. There is heavyhanded dialogue and the plot has glaring loopholes — Hooda's such a brilliant crime reporter that he doesn't smell a rat when a cop infiltrates their gang.
On paper, Ungli's brand of street justice might seem exciting but in this film, it feels rather pedestrian.
