Justice S. Rajeswaran, a retired judge of the Madras High Court, will be the chairperson of a monitoring committee that will submit a report to the court on illegal digital boards and hoardings.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice R. Mahadevan passed the order on Wednesday on a contempt petition filed by K.R. Ramaswamy alias ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy, a social activist.

A.S. Jeevarathinam and P. Ekambaram, retired IAS officers, will be panel members.

The petitioner said action should be taken against officials responsible for putting up illegal banners and failing to implement a court order of January 9 this year.

By that order, the court had directed district collectors, heads of departments, local body officials and commissioners and superintendents of police to ensure illegal digital banners and placards were not put up anywhere in the city.

Report by Feb.

Criminal prosecution should be launched against violators and there should be periodic monitoring, the order said.

The court said the monitoring committee should submit its report by February 26.
