Syabu trafficking trial in April for Bruneian
KOTA KINABALU: A 35-year-old Bruneian charged with trafficking 52.1gm of syabu will go on trial on April 20-24 next year.Mohammad Noor Hj. Jumat, who appeared before High Court Judge Ravinthran N. Paramaguru, is accused of committing the offence at 9.30pm on Nov 19, 2013 in a house at Taman Nelly, Phase 8C, Jalan Nountun, in Inanam.

Noor faces the death sentence if convicted under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Ravinthran also set Jan 30 next year for pre-trial case management. Noor is represented by assigned counsel Dato' Sri Rakhbir Singh.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Luke Ressa Balang, the prosecution has 12 witnesses for the case.

In another case, a 26-year old Visaya Filipino will be tried for murder as the prosecution has received instruction to proceed with the murder charge against the accused.

Arger Serenio, a construction labourer, allegedly murdered one Roldan, a Visaya Filipino, who was also his co-worker, at 4pm on Jan 24, at a house construction site in Kg Sunsuran, Tambunan.

DPP Balang informed the court that Tuesday was for review of the representation letter made by Arger's counsel and that they were instructed to proceed with the murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

On Nov 5, counsel Datu Baginda Datu Laja told the court that he had written a representation letter to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office to reduce the charge to a lesser charge of causing death under Section 304 of the Penal Code.

Arger will be tried for five days commencing March 23 next year as fixed earlier.

Meanwhile, in the Magistrate's Court, 13 people were jailed and fined by the Magistrate's Court after they admitted to taking syabu.

They were Jusim Mohid Jorrae, Nurain Maslan, Musakar Jimlani, Mohd Rizal Masdah, Rafizal Mukadis, Rasul Nasir, Mohd Sarulnizam Rahim, Mohd Rizal Kassim, Anil Datil, Gerald Mojikon, Craig Herbert Prerra, Andrah Lamboi and Mohd Isa Pailan, who appeared separately before Magistrates Mohd Faiz Omar, Stephanie Sherron Abbie and Cindy Mc Juce Balitus.

They were arrested at different places here between Oct 29 and Nov 2.

Craig, Andrah and Mohd Isa were fined RM1,800 or three months each, Gerald was jailed three months while the rest were handed four months' jail each.

The 13 were charged under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, or both, on conviction.
