BJP uses Jayakrishnan martyrdom day as a political weapon
KANNUR: Taking the martyrdom day of Yuva Morcha leader K T Jayakrishnan as a political weapon to penetrate into the CPM strongholds in the district, the BJP took out a mammoth rally in Payyannur on Monday, in which thousands of party workers attended virtually brig the place t a standstill.
The rally began from Edat in the suburbs of Payyannur and concluded at the new bus stand in Payyannur town, the venue of the public meeting.
Though there were minor clashes in many parts of the district during the last few days between the BJP and the CPM, following which the BJP had complained that the CPM was trying to sabotage the martyrdom day observation, it did not affect the people's participation.
Though the martyrdom day observation was paced down a bit by the Sangh parivar, this year the party decided to observe it strongly due to political reasons.
BJP national secretary H Raja, who inaugurated the public meeting, said it should come to power in Kerala to uplift the Hindu community economically. Further, in order to bring peace and development in Kerala, the state should be freed from the communists, said the leader.
Taking into account the law and order problem, the police had deployed large number of force in Payyannur and surrounding areas.
It was last year on the same day that an RSS karyavahak, A V Vinod Kumar, was murdered allegedly by a group of CPM workers at Perumba near Payyannur, when he was going to attend the martyrdom day function of Jayakrishnan in Kannur. It was due to this murder only that the BJP decided to organize the martyrdom day functions here.
At the function, the daughter of late M C Rayarappan, the leader of the historic Kavumbayi struggle, the peasant struggle organised by the communists, formally joined the BJP by accepting membership from Raja. BJP district president K Ranjith presided.
