C’garh attack shows Maoists desperate: Rajnath
Lucknow: Condemning the attack on CRPF personnel at Chhattishgarh, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said, “The attack reflects desperation of the Maoists.” There were reports of around 13 to 15 personnel killed in the ambush. “Had Maoists not used the innocent villagers for cover, the scale of the incident wouldn't have been as big,” said Singh in Lucknow on Monday.
On a day-long personal visit to his constituency, Singh reacted after Maoists attacked CRPF troopers returning to their base after a search operation in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
The home minister said he had discussed the situation with the National Security Advisor, Home secretary and senior IB and CRPF officials.
On whether deployment of security forces in poll-bound state of Jharkhand led to the attack in Chhattishgarh, he said that was not the case.
Replying to a question on whether efforts would continue to talk to Maoists to surrender weapons, Singh said all channels were open to ensure that Maoists give up disruptive and destablising activities.
Unable to leave for the spot in the evening because of some problem with flight operation in the night Singh said he would take off on Tuesday morning.
